Joylog Smart Sonar Fish Finder https://www.kayakingsource.com/joylog-smart-sonar-fish-finder/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/joylog-smart-sonar-fish-finder/#comments Mon, 02 Dec 2019 05:02:00 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2736 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Fish Finder Smart Sonar Depth Finder with iOS & Android Phone APP for Kayak/Ice/Boat Fishing

JOYLOG smart sonar fish finder integrates high-precision miniature sonar system which can detect the location, size, depth and other underwater fish feelings within the range of 40m underwater, as well as underwater topographic map, water depth, water temperature and other information. JOYLOG APP enables you to grasp the underwater dynamics in real time on your mobile phone.

The depth range is from .6 meters to 40 meters (1.97 ft to 131 ft). The frequency is a set 125 KHz with a detection angle of 30 degrees. The detection angle of 30 degrees is smaller than most portable sonar systems. The communication method is bluetooth which will limit the total range and cause issues if there is not direct sight of the system between it and the phone. The range is stated at 164 foot, but that can be limited by a lot of different factors. Some of the factors are any item between you and the device or even what type of phone you have.

The battery is a 3.7V with 1000mAh and is rechargeable by a USB cord. We found the battery size is a great aspect of this sonar device. Most people found they can use it all day without any issues. Even with the size of the battery, the device only weighs in at .19 pounds.

The app is on both Android and IOS. The setup is simple, but the manual does not go in great detail each function. We do like how it shows the strength and allows you to enlarge section of the screen.

In closing, the device seems to work great and most customers find it fits their needs. The detection angle limits the overall use, but can be worked around. The biggest issue I have seen is the customer service. If you have a problem with the product, there is no one to contact. Maybe they will see this review and will contact me. If that happens, I will update the review, but I must wait till that happens.

Another issue I had was the linking with the phone. This device uses bluetooth which causes issue if the device is out of your sight. When I had it out on the water testing it, it would easily loose signal with the up and down motion of the waves.

Best Fishing Tackle Backpack https://www.kayakingsource.com/best-fishing-tackle-backpack/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/best-fishing-tackle-backpack/#comments Sat, 26 Oct 2019 21:08:43 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2851 Everyone needs some type of way of carrying their fishing tackle. While sometimes a normal fishing tackle box will work, sometimes you need more. If you are a real active outdoorsman, sometimes you need a good way to carry your tackle when your on the move. As a person that kayak fishes, I needed something that I can move around easily. A fishing tackle backpack was an option that fit that need.

Bassdash is a company that designs a lot of different fishing tackle products. I have previously used a few of their products and had trust that their product would be made of good quality material. Bassdash has been known to stand behind their product and that says a lot for their reputation.

Best Fishing Tackle Backpack for Kayaking

Dimensions of the bag are approximately 15.7”(L) x 7.9”(W) x 19.7”(H). The main compartment is adjustable and can be divided into 2 separate inner compartments with movable clapboard in the main compartment. The top compartment is to store personal items; Lower compartment holds up to 3 large 3600-size (10.71” x 7” x 1.65”) plano style tackle boxes.

There is a total of 9 different compartments in this backpack. A key one to me is the sunglass compartment. This is a hard shell compartment specifically designed to hold your sunglasses and keep them protected. The sides have matching compartments that can store fishing gear that can be easily reached. I personally like the bigger compartment on the side because I can fit a compact firearm. The top compartment is a large compartment that can be used for bigger items or clothes if you are going camping.

On the back top compartment, there is a rain cover that allows you to quickly cover the backpack up if it starts to rain. The backpack is not waterproof, so I have replaced the plano boxes that came with it with waterproof boxes.

A key aspect for any backpack is the straps. I found the straps to be great quality. The stitching seemed to be strong and a lot of them were double stitches where they should be. The straps and the part where your back hits the backpack is padded. There is a pull straps to tightening the straps. There is a middle clip that keeps the straps from moving around. I am a little worried on the quality there. The clip is very small and might easily break.

I was disappointed that there wasn’t a place to attach a fishing rod. I am sure this is something that could be modified to attach it with a little velcro strap.

Overall, I believe this is a great quality product. The backpack is made of great quality material and will last a long time. It has a lot of features that will meet the needs of most fisherman. I am glad to own this product.

  • Premium 600D polyester construction; Dimensions of the bag are approximately 15.7”(L) x 7.9”(W) x 19.7”(H)
  • Adjustable main compartment can be divided into 2 separate inner compartments with movable clapboard in the main compartment: Top compartment to store personal items; Lower compartment holds up to 3 large 3600-size (10.71” x 7” x 1.65”) utility boxes (included) – the 3600-size box can be modified to create anywhere from 6 to 18 different compartments with pre-cut dividers to hold and organize your tackle and accessories
  • Generous front pockets and large side pockets have been sized to fit most box styles and measurements or to accommodate other accessories or personal items
  • With hard molded sunglasses compartment & Daisy chain webbing at front offering attachment points
  • Ergonomic, breathable and padded back design; Adjustable padded shoulder straps with Molle webbing exterior & D ring gear attachments & Adjustable elastic chest straps with a whistle buckle
  • Built-in rain cover at the back zippered pocket – keep your bag contents safe

Bassdash Fishing T-shirt https://www.kayakingsource.com/bassdash-fishing-t-shirt/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/bassdash-fishing-t-shirt/#comments Sun, 06 Oct 2019 21:51:38 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2819

When it started getting hot out this summer, I decided to get a new shirt to help me from getting sunburned. While on Facebook, I was contacted by Bassdash who asked me to do an independent review of the Bassdash Fishing long sleeve t-shirt.

I size I got in was a “Large” and it did fit perfect. Being about 190# and 5’7, I was a little worried about it being too tight, but I was glad I got the large. When I got the shirt in, I was amazed at the quality. The main part of the shirt was white with red lettering on the sleeve that says “Bassdash”.

On the back it has the spandex mesh fabric about half way down. It allowed me to stay cool on those hot days on the kayak.

The label showed that it is knitted UV protection 84% Polyester and 16% Spandex fabric. It shows that it has a 50+ UPF protection from the sun rays.

One thing that I have learned is that you have to have dedicated fishing apparel when you are fishing. I personally live in the south, so it gets hot. While a short sleeve t-shirt would work, I would be sweating and burn like crazy. A light material long sleeve shirt that allows me to stay cool is very important. This shirt meets those needs.

One problem that I had with the shirt was getting stains on it. I am hard on my shirts and it does show. The material is very forgiving in the way that you can get the stains out. I did have to wash it twice and let it soak in water to get the “catfish” out of the shirt. But amazingly it did come out. Having a white shirt scares me sometimes.

Below is a video I made where I was wearing the Bassdash T-shirt.

  • Made from advanced knitted UV protection 84% Polyester and 16% Spandex fabric
  • Long sleeve design and 50+ UPF protection shield you from the suns harsh rays
  • The moisture wicking fabric manages the perspiration to assist in keeping you dryer and comfortable on a long day’s fishing
  • The breathability enhanced with the Mesh Back / Under Sleeve keeps you cool when active in heat
  • The elastic material allows for a full range of movement, perfect for the action out by the shore or on the boat
  • Great for casual wear in most places, not just on fishing adventures – it will look great at a BBQ, casual lunch or at your local fishing club presentation; Unisex fashion – looks great on both male and female anglers

In summary, this is a product that I would personally recommend. It is great quality and is sold at a great price. When you are in an area where the sun will beat you down, you need something like. It allows your skin to breath but keeps the sun off you!

5 Best Pedal Kayaks for Fishing Reviews 2019 https://www.kayakingsource.com/5-best-pedal-kayaks-for-fishing-reviews-2019/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/5-best-pedal-kayaks-for-fishing-reviews-2019/#comments Sat, 07 Sep 2019 04:47:09 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2792

Finding a pedal kayak which is both comfortable enough to ride and stable enough for fishing can be a difficult task, as many have a reputation for being wobbly and easy to capsize; you’re trying to catch the fish, not swim with them! With the increasing popularity in recent years of pedal kayaks, however, a number of brands have begun to focus on improving the designs of their pedal kayaks to make them more reliable and trustworthy whilst also offering a host of other features. Trying to find the right kayak for your needs can be difficult when you have to choose between all of these new pedal kayak innovations, which are why we’ve compiled a list of our favorites to help you find the right pedal kayak for you.

What Is A Pedal Kayak?

A pedal kayak is a recent innovation which merges traditional kayaking with cycling. Pedaling a kayak makes for a smoother kayaking experience and allows you to glide seamlessly through the water at a controllable and stable speed. The pedals also allow you to move faster through the water than traditional paddles allow, making crossing large bodies of water or large distances easy.

Since pedal kayaking allows you to free your hands—which would have to be holding onto your paddle on a traditional kayak or canoe—it is particularly favored among fishermen and other kayakers who intend to do multiple tasks whilst on the water, such as wildlife photography.

The thought of a pedal kayak may seem a little strange, especially for people who have been paddling for a long time and are used to using a paddle to ease their kayak through the water. However, pedal kayaks offer a number of benefits in regards to the experience of kayaking, including the additional comfort it provides for your shoulders and your back and the more natural movement through the water when compared to the somewhat stop-start motion that is seen in traditional paddle-powered kayaks. The pedal system also allows for movement back and forth, which is particularly useful for fishing against a current or for when you’re tackling larger fish.

Pedal kayaks are notably more expensive than a traditional paddle kayak, usually in the range of $1000 right up to $4000. They are also heavier than normal kayaks, so before buying one, you must take the time to work out how you will transport and move a pedal kayak into the Water.

Which Model Of Pedal Kayak Is Best?

Choosing the right pedal kayak for your needs will depend heavily upon where you’re intending to use your kayak and for what purposes. A wider kayak will be suitable for people wanting stability for fishing; however a narrower vessel is more streamlined and will move through the water easier, allowing for faster travel. A longer kayak will be heavier but will offer better tracking than a shorter one (i.e. under ten foot). The right kayak for you will also have to be able to carry enough weight to support all of your

gear, as well as you and any passengers you may be taking with you. In general, it is recommended that your kayak should have a minimum weight capacity of 250 pounds.

Native Watercraft Slayer Pedal Kayak

Native Watercraft Slayer Pedal Kayak

At only 10’ in length and weighing a mere 62 pounds, the Native Watercraft Slayer Pedal Kayak is a small but incredible sturdy little model. Its lightweight nature makes it easy to transport and load onto your vehicle, which is often forgotten when making a decision on which kayak is right for you and your storage. Despite its lightweight nature, however, it is a wonderful kayak to handle which responds well and is hence effortless to maneuver through still waters. Within built rod holders, it is also perfect for fans of hands-free fishing and is stable enough for you to enjoy a quick drink whilst waiting for fish to find you. The kayak’s foot paddles are also set up to allow for forward and reverse paddling which comes in particularly useful when trying to fight against a current or navigate towards the perfect fishing spot.

Pros

  • Top speed of 3.5mph
  • Great for fishing
  • Comfortable to ride on
  • A whopping 500 pounds of storage
  • Easy to handle (lightweight)

Cons

  • Not fast enough for a racing foot paddle kayak
  • Short length may make the kayak have poorer tracking abilities
  • Wilderness Systems Pedal Fishing Kayak

The Wilderness Systems Pedal Fishing Kayak

The Wilderness Systems Pedal Fishing Kayak is designed for optimal power from a minimal effort on the part of the kayaker. Its 6 to 1 gear ratio ensures a large acceleration and power output with each turn of the pedals. One of the major benefits of this feature is that longer kayaking and fishing trips can be arranged without the risk of feeling excessively fatigued afterwards, and who wouldn’t want to be able to kayak for longer at a time?

Despite its sturdiness, this Wilderness Systems Kayak has also been designed to be highly maneuverable and speedy in the water, meaning that you can control it perfectly no matter what speed you are travelling at.

Pros

  • Sturdy enough for fishing
  • Speedy enough to make quick work of long distances
  • Easy to maneuver despite it weighing only 47.5lb
  • 325 lb storage
  • Flat platform for standing fishing

Cons

  • Short length means that it may not track as well as some longer kayaks

Hobie Mirage Revolution 11 Pedal Kayak

The Hobie Mirage Revolution 11 Pedal Kayak is sleek and stylish and is a good all-round model due to its small, fast, and lightweight body which still manages to offer impressive sturdiness in the water. As such, it can be used for all types of pedal kayaking activities. The Kayak also comes equipped with all of the storage space that one would expect from a larger model of kayak and uses the Mirage Drive pedal technology to make your kayaking experience as enjoyable as possible. For a touch of customization, the kayak is also available in three colors to tailor to your preferences.

Pros

  • Molded-in rod holders for fishing
  • Spacious storage despite the kayak’s small proportions
  • 11ft length will mean that the kayak tracks relatively well compared to shorter models
  • Mirage Drive feature
  • Dual purpose kayak

Cons

  • Small sized kayak may not be suitable for all users

Hobie Oasis Tandem Pedal Powered Kayak

Making use of Mirage Drive technology for its pedals, the Hobie Oasis Tandem Pedal Powered Kayak is comfortable to use thanks to its padded seats and exceptionally high quality manufacturing. Made from roto molded polyethylene, it is stronger than other kayaks and is thus more stable as well. This premium pedal kayak is also incredibly generous when it comes to storage availability, making it perfect for carrying large amounts of equipment and supplies.

Pros

  • Rotomolded polyethylene material
  • Maximum weight capacity of 550 pounds
  • 14 feet in length
  • Enough storage space for overnight fishing excursions

Cons

  • Very expensive—premium model of kayak so unsurprising that the price tag is higher

Hobie Mirage Outback Pedal Drive Kayak (Ivory Dune)

The Mirage Outback Pedal Drive Kayak is optimized for a quick and speedy ride, with its nimble and streamlined design making it a fun kayak for those who enjoy a little more excitement. The kayak has a drain plug for removing any collected water in the hull and the Mirage Drive feature makes the act of foot paddling easy. Furthermore, the kayak comes with an additional paddle for easy maneuverability in shallow waters.

Pros

  • Drain plugs
  • Paddle for maneuverability
  • Large quantities of storage space
  • Good length of 12’1”
  • Impressive 400lb weight capacity
  • Streamlined and fast design

Cons

  • Too unstable for fishing use

Quick Release Terminals A901 https://www.kayakingsource.com/quick-release-terminals-a901/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/quick-release-terminals-a901/#comments Fri, 05 Jul 2019 04:39:37 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2725 Being that I personally use Kayaks, I constantly take my battery in and out of my Kayak. My Feelfree Dorado comes with electronic wiring built in which includes standard battery terminals. I found myself constantly using a socket to remove the terminals and wanted a easy way to take them on and off. I purchased three of the Quick Release Terminals A901 from Amazon at $10.99 each. I installed them on all three of my kayaks at the same time. They were easy to put on, but I did have a problem with the clamp to attach the main battery wire. It kept slipping off due to not being able to clamp down strong enough. I ended up having to bend the connector to make it work. I found the part that slid onto the battery was the right side, but a lot of customers say they have received some that did not fit. The quick release part allows for you to push the plastic part down to clamp down. You will hear a click and the terminal will be on there tight.

So I used the terminals for about a week. After about two or three uses, two of the quick release terminals were broken. When I clamped them down, they did not “clamp”. This allowed the connector to just fall off the battery.

I contacted the company and they said they would send out a new one, but they failed to ever do that. I believe they were just waiting for the amazon return period to pass by.

Heavy duty quick release car battery clamps / terminals A901

As a reviewer, I see a lot of good quality products and bad quality products. I believe the concept of this product is a great one, but the quality of the product is lacking. The product is poorly made by a manufacturer that sells it to a lot of different companies. These companies sell it under a lot of different names.

I am unable to recommend this product due to two of the three products breaking so fast. The company does not stand behind their product.

Sun Dolphin Aruba 10-Foot Sit-in Kayak https://www.kayakingsource.com/sun-dolphin-aruba-10-foot-sit-in-kayak/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/sun-dolphin-aruba-10-foot-sit-in-kayak/#respond Fri, 17 May 2019 22:00:48 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2583 The Aruba 10’s hull is made of a UV-resistant polyethylene. No need to worry about damaging it, scraping against rocks, or getting banged against them; it will pop right back and be no worse for the wear. It weighs in a very manageable 42 pounds, so it’s not too much trouble to lug it to your favorite put-in point.

The Aruba 10’s hull design is classic rec boat, with a very wide cockpit and narrow ends, which gives it pretty good tracking in calm waters. The boat measures 29 inches at its widest point, so it feels quite stable even for paddlers who haven’t spent a whole lot of time on the water. On the downside, due to its wider cockpit it’s more likely to turn sideways in a current. Inside the cockpit is an adjustable padded backrest, though the seat itself is hard plastic. The seat itself is not something you would want to sit on all day, but gets the job done. The boat also comes with padded thigh braces and adjustable foot pedals to create a snug fit for paddlers of almost any size.

At the rear of the boat is a sizable bulkhead storage compartment. However, the compartment’s cover is held down with shock cord and isn’t the most waterproof. You’ll want to put gear that can’t get wet in dry bag. The kayak’s front deck has an indentation that can hold your drinks and you could always put a small cooler inside the kayak.

  • Materials: Rugged UV-stabilized Fortiflex® high density polyethylene
  • Model: ARUBA10
  • Brand: Sun Dolphin
  • Made in the USA
  • 2 Year Warranty
  • Length: 115 inches / 292 cm
  • Width: 29 inches / 74 cm
  • Height: 16 inches / 41cm
  • Capacity: 250 lbs / 113 kg
  • Weight: 40 lbs / 18 kg

This is a economy kayak that would be great for kids, but not for fishing. Amazon currently has it listed right under $300.00 which is very cost effective price. It doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles the bigger kayaks have, but great recreational kayak. I wouldn’t sit in it very long or some parts of you will hurt.

I don’t see anything wrong with having a inexpensive kayak like this. Great for kids or quick recreational trips.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials said they, along with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and US Coast Guard, received a call around 11 p.m. that a kayak with one person on board, now identified as 16-year-old William Jenkins, had not returned after paddling out a short distance away from the shore.

FWC said a good Samaritan took another kayak to Jenkins’ location, where they found him unconscious in the water.

The Samaritan brought Jenkins back to shore, where bystanders immediately began giving him CPR. The Coast Guard soon arrived at the scene and took over CPR until EMS arrived.

Jenkins was taken to Health Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members said Jenkins was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and that his father had told him that he wasn’t allowed to go kayaking alone because of his condition. They said Jenkins was shark fishing with a friend and was sitting on the causeway when he saw a bite and went out in the kayak to get his catch.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

  • 30L (7.9 Gallons) – 10.4” diameter, 26.4” high (unfolded), 21.4” high (folded), 23.8 oz

  • 40L (10.6 Gallons) – 11.6” diameter, 28.3” high (unfolded), 23.4” high (folded), 26.3 oz

This product could be a life saver. One key thing about kayaking in the winter is that you need to have dry clothing in case you fall in. The product shows that it should not be submerged, but we tested that part anyways. Amazingly everything stayed dry. It has the option to carry it in your hand or worn has a backpack. For the price, this is a great option for anyone that is on the water.

Feelfree Dorado 125

Feelfree Dorado 125
Feelfree Dorado 125

The Feelfree Dorado is a new Kayak that was announced to start being delivered in September of 2018.  This was shown in ICast 2018 and was a great hit.  This Kayak has a electrical system built in as a standard feature.  It also sports a Cathedral Hull system that should give it great tracking and speed.

Here is a video from KayakDYI.

Pros

  • Pedal Drive System / Motor Option

The Feelfree Dorado 125 comes with a fin driven system called the Overdrive System.  This system is in the same range as the Mirage System from Hobie.  Feelfree has created a system where the drive comes standard for pedal drive, but also has a added feature to become a motor drive system quickly and easily.  The motor option slides into the Overdrive system and can be engaged at any time.  There is a computer system that quickly shows you how much power you have and how long you can go at your current speed.  The motor option does come at a extra cost which adds to the price tag.

There are a few issues with the motor drive option. The first issue is that it is loud compared to a lot of different drive systems. They state this is because of the gear ratio in such a small package. The other issue is that there can be a lot of issues if the “brain” gets wet.

The Overdrive motor does come with a hand held speed control and a screen that will show you how much battery and time you have left at your current speed.  The motor gives a good 40 pounds of thrust.

  • Transducer Port

The Feelfree Dorado comes standard with a transducer port that has the ability to place your transducer below the boat, but easily retracted by hand at any time.  This allows you to leave your transducer in the hull into you are safe to use your fish finder.  This is great for when you are in shallow water, rocky bottom, or shoring your Kayak.

Feelfree Dorado Nav Lights

Electrical System

The Feelfree Dorado comes standard with a electrical system already wired.  There is a battery compartment directly behind the seat with USB and switches for lights.  There is deck lighting and navigation lighting already setup.  This allows for use of the motor option without having to install lighting.  Battery is not included.

  • Stability

With a cathedral style hull and a width of 38 inches, this is a very stable Kayak.  To turn over a Kayak like this, you have to be really trying hard.

  • Customer Service

This has been Feelfree best feature. The customer service at Feelfree is great. Any problem you have is easily and quickly taken care of by “Joe” at Feelfree. This quick and easy response has saved them from a lot of mad customers for problems that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Cons

  • Price

Like the Hobie line, this is a high end Kayak.  With a starting price of $2999.99 and a optional $1400.00.  This puts this Kayak in a different ball park compared to a lot of other Kayaks.  While the Overdrive motor is optional, it is a great feature to easily motorize your Kayak.

  • Weight

The standard weight of this system starts out at 100 pounds.  This is something that limits a lot of people that can’t carry that much weight around.  This will also reduce the overall speed due to the weight.

  • Rudder Location Weak

Our tests have shown that the rudder location is very weak. In our tests, a impact at this location will tear off the rudder and leave a large hole. Feelfree has not responded to our request for a solution for this issue.

  • Seat

The seat is very nice in a lot of ways. You can sit in this all day and have no issues. The problem we have found is the strap is low on the back of the seat. If you lean back too much, it puts a lot of stress on the lower part of the back. This has caused the back rest to bend and break easily.

Overall

Michael and Kristal on the Feelfree Dorado

Like the Hobie, this is a Kayak that has its own niche. If you have the money and love the design, this is a great kayak. Feelfree has made a kayak that stands out and has a lot of great features. The build in electrical system, motor option, and stability are key features of this kayak. The largest downside is the weight.

If you want a kayak that will stand out and get you places, this is a great option!

Shoreline Marine Portable LED Clamp on Navigation Light Combo https://www.kayakingsource.com/shoreline-marine-portable-led-clamp-on-navigation-light-combo/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/shoreline-marine-portable-led-clamp-on-navigation-light-combo/#comments Mon, 06 May 2019 05:35:05 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2513 The Shoreline Marine Portable LED Clamp on Navigation Light Combo is a simple solution to having the lights on your kayak without drilling holes. In most areas, you need navigation lights when you put any type of motor on your kayak. This product will give you the 360 white light and red and green stern or bow lights. The light bulb is a LED light, so it will last a long time. The total length on the 360 light is 24″, so that is about what most need for a all around light.

Shoreline Marine Portable LED Clamp on Navigation Light Combo

I made this purchase as a cheap and simple solution to getting a kayak on the water at night. The lights only take three (3) AAA batteries that were not included. They are easy to mount with simple clamps. The 360 light and the bow/stern lights are separate, so you can put them where ever you like. The total weight is only 14.4 ounces and breaks down easily when you don’t need it.

The main thing that I did not like on this combo was that it is cheaply made. While the price allows you to replace them easily, they may not last long. On the one that I got, the bulb casing did not fit right on the 360 light and was loose.

ShoreLine Marine

This product is made by Shoreline Marine which makes a lot of accessories that can be used on boats of all types and sizes.

Overall, this is a good product to purchase if you need a quick solution. I it available at stores like Walmart, Bass Pro, and online at Amazon. I personally purchased one on Amazon due to it being cheaper.

Top Kayak Reviews of the Most Stable, Quality Made, and Most Features for your Money

Lets us introduce you to our picks for best Kayaks of 2020.  Kayaks are getting more and more popular with fisherman, adventure seekers, and outdoors people.  Because of that, manufacturers are putting out new Kayaks very often.  In this article we are going to look at some of the top 2020 Kayaks when they come to stability, quality, and cost effective.

Kayaks are being made specifically for fishing to help fill the gap between short fishing and big boat fishing.  The kayaks today are made for catching a fish without tipping over.  Some modern fishing kayaks are made stable enough to stand in.

One thing to think about is that there isn’t a one size fits everyone product.  There are a lot of different variable to think about.  Price, size, weight, length, features, speed, and quality are some things to think about.  Everyone has different things they like to think about.  For me, I look heavily on the seat.  If I can’t sit in in for a period of time without hurting, I won’t fish long.

This guide is looking at some of our favorite kayaks in a few different categories.  I will help you see some of the different features of each.  I will explain why we picked them and what that means to you.

Featured Fishing Kayak – Vibe Kayaks Sea Ghost 110 and Sea Ghost 130

Top Pick

Popularity: High

For the price, the Sea Ghost 110 and Sea Ghost 130 is the best value out there.  These Kayaks are made by Vibe Kayaks.  These Kayaks have a lot of great features that you will only find on more expensive Kayaks.  For the money, I would not look anywhere else.

These Kayaks are both designed specifically for fishing anglers.  They are a sit-on-top Kayak that has a lot of stability, speed, features, and quality.  These Kayaks are made by the same company as the Skipjack and Yellowfin, but a giant leap in design over both of them.

Both the 110 and 130 have a lot of room and features to help you catch fish.  Due to the rudder, you have great tracking in any type of water.  The Kayaks have a lot of speed that will get you where you want to go.  The 110 is a little shorter, so it does do better on rivers and the 130 is better on open water.

Pros

The Sea Ghost line is a great line of Kayaks.  Both the 110 and 130 have features that make them the top kayak.

  • Foot Controlled Rudder System

Sea Ghost RudderA key feature in this Kayak is that it comes standard with a rudder.  This is a feature that you will find mostly on more expensive Kayaks.  A rudder is a feature that allows you to stay straight without having to use your paddle all the time.   This Kayak allows you to control the rudder with a foot controlled system.

  • Vibe Hero Seat

Vibe Sea Ghost Hero SeatLike I said above, a seat is a very important feature in any Kayak.  It gives you padding, back support, and a lot of space so that you are comfortable during those days where you are on the water a long time.

  • Transducer Port

Sea Ghost Transducer PortThis is something that made us look really hard at the Sea Ghost line.  Each Sea Ghost comes with a transducer port under the main hull of the boat.  This allows you to install a fish finder without having to drill any holes if you don’t want to.  The transducer can be easily screwed into the bottom of the boat without making any extra modifications.  This is something you will not find in other Kayaks in this price range.

  • Weight

The Sea Ghost 110 and Sea Ghost 130 are both light when compared to other Kayaks in this range.  The Sea Ghost 110 is 62 pounds and the Sea Ghost 130 is 75 pounds.  This allows for car topping if you want to.

  • Manufacturer Customer Service

This is something to not take lightly.  Vibe is a great company that will stand behind their product.  They go beyond what most companies will do for you.  If you call them with any issue, they will likely resolve it for you without any issues.

Cons

  • Price

This is something that I could really put as a pro or a con.  The cost is close to one grand for either Kayak.  A lot of people starting out Kayaking do not want to pay the price, but that is a mistake.  If you buy one of those cheap big store Kayaks, you will end up upgrading very quickly after you understand what you really want.  A benefit of this Kayak is that this comes with a starter paddle, so that is one item that you won’t have to buy.  For the value, this is really not a “con”.

Overall

Aside from the performance advantages in this Kayak, the Sea Ghost’s has a leg up on room.  There is a lot of room in front and back for your gear.  The width of the Kayak allows for enough stability to stand up easily without tipping over.

If you are the type that likes to attach a lot of gear, this Kayak is setup for that.  There is already four integrated gear tracks.  The front compartment is also a great place to install a fish finder or a rod holder.  For those that want a quick place to place your fishing rod, there is two flush mount rod holders directly behind the seats.

If you are looking for a good priced Kayak that has all the features you really need, this is the Kayak for you.  Unless you are in the market for a pedal drive, this is the Kayak you should be looking at.

Amazon is a great place to purchase a Sea Ghost due to delivering to your house and you don’t have to pay tax in some states.

Best Quality

Hobie Mirage Outback

Popularity: High

Every person that is into Kayaks knows about Hobie.  The Hobie line is one of the best lines of Kayaks, but they are also one of the most expensive Kayaks.  Even with the price, they are phenomenal Kayaks.  They have won so many awards that they have to be in any Top Kayak List.

Pros

  • Pedal Drive System

This is a standard feature that everyone knows.  The Hobie line of Kayaks that have the pedal drive system is outstanding.  The advantage is that they have the Mirage Drive System.  The Mirage Drive system has fins that go back and forth.  This allows for fast speeds with limited weeds getting caught up.  The only thing that we don’t like about the system is you do have to switch it in and out of forward and reverse to go either direction.  In the propeller type system you just reverse your pedaling.  Even with that disadvantage, you can’t overlook that the Mirage Drive is the best system out there.

Hobie Mirage Drive for the Hobie Mirage Outback

The Mirage Drive weighs in at under eight pounds.  The two fins pivot in 180 degrees to provide fast propulsion.  The fins allow for quick shallow water access and shore landing by pushing one pedal forward to move the fins to the upper position.

The Mirage Drive gives you a lot of speed and ability to move around while giving you hands free for fishing.

  • Guardian Retractable Transducer Shield

Mirage Outback Transducer Guardian The Guardian Retractable Transducer Shield is a new feature that has come out at the end of 2018.  This new feature is a game changer when it comes to protecting your transducer.  In the Hobie Outback, the transducer can be lowered below the boat to allow for side scan radar.  On impact the transducer retracts into the hull for protection.  This is a simple design that other Kayaks currently do not have.  This transducer location also has a pre-installed thru-hull cable slot for quick install of a fish finder.

Cons

  • Price

This is the main drawback of a Hobie Mirage Outback Kayak.  The Hobie line of Kayaks are on the high end of the price range.  The one thing to note is that most people that purchase a Hobie Kayak do not regret the purchase.

  • Weight

The weight of a Hobie Mirage Outback starts out at 85 pounds.  Fully loaded is around 103 pounds.  This is due to the high quality heavy duty hull and the pedal drive system.  The weight does reduce the overall speed of the Kayak.

Overall

If you have the money, the Hobie line of Kayaks are a great way to go.  The Mirage drive performance and high quality hull makes for a life long Kayak.  Another great feature is that the Kayaks hold their cost value very well.  If you ever decide to sell the Kayak, you are able to get a lot of your money back.

Like the Hobie, this is a Kayak that has its own niche.  If you have the money and like the design, this is a great Kayak.

Summary

We have looked at the Vibe Sea Ghost line, Hobie Outback, and the new Feelfree Dorado 125.  Depending on what you are looking for, there is a Kayak out there for you.  Look at how much money you want to spend and compare that against what features you want.  If you are on the fence, wait a little while until you have the money to spend on the better one.  You will be happier in the long run.

On a personal note, my wife and I have three Feelfree Dorado 125(s).  We have two with the motor drive and one without.  We decided on the Dorado(s) for the stability and the motor drive option.  The main disadvantages for me is the weight and lack of compartments to the inside of the kayak.

That being said, we would have no problem using a Vibe Sea Ghost.  I believe for the money and the features, it is our top Kayak of 2019.  The Kayak has a lot of great features and has a company that stands behind its product.

Buying Guide

Here are some things to think about when purchasing a Kayak:

  • What size cooler, bag, or crate do you want to carry with you?
  • Where do you want to mount your fishing rods and tackle?
  • Do you have places to put accessories?  How many rails come pre-installed?
  • Do you have enough room for how many fishing rods you will be using?
  • Is your Kayak strong enough to last?
  • Does the company stand behind their Kayak?  Check out their customer service.

Just remember that a Kayak is an investment that you want to keep in good condition.  Buying a cheap Kayak may sound easy, but you may regret it later.

RAD Sportz Wall Hanger Pro Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Board Rack https://www.kayakingsource.com/rad-sportz-wall-hanger-pro-kayak-and-stand-up-paddle-board-rack/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/rad-sportz-wall-hanger-pro-kayak-and-stand-up-paddle-board-rack/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2019 07:03:09 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2397 The RAD Sportz Wall Hanger Pro kayak and SUP rack is one of the easiest, safest ways to store your stand up paddle board or Kayak. Your kayaks and paddle boards rest easily on foam padded arms and secure with quality nylon straps and clips. The yellow powder coated finish keeps your racks protected and good looking year after year. Keep your water toys up out of the way and off the floor securely and safely with the RAD Sportz Wall Hanger Pro.

  • Convenient: Holds up to 125 pounds! Enough for the largest kayaks or paddle boards
  • Safe and Secure: With the included nylon straps and clips, your kayak or stand up paddle boards will nor fall out of the rack.
  • Options: Easily mounts to a walls, posts, benches and other applications.
  • Durable: High quality yellow powder-coated steel will hold up to years of use.
  • Useful: Get more space by getting the kayak off the floor

In summary, this is a great deal if you are trying to get your kayaks off the floor.  Other products are easily double the price and less quality.  The key is getting into the stud when mounting this on the wall.  With a maximum weight of 125 pounds, you will be able to support most kayaks.

The only downside I could find was that the strap is on the weak side.  If you have a heavy kayak, you may want to switch it out.

We believe this is a good deal and have not found anyone that says any different.

Yak-Power YP-BBK Power Pack Battery Box Review https://www.kayakingsource.com/yak-power-yp-bbk-power-pack-battery-box-review/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/yak-power-yp-bbk-power-pack-battery-box-review/#respond Fri, 22 Feb 2019 23:00:31 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2378 The power pack battery box is a power solution for kayaks by providing a all-in-one solution. As we all know, we are limited on space in kayaks. This power box is a solution that allows us to have a box we can put the battery in with all the wiring already contained. This is a 12v battery box that holds up to three 7ah or two 12ah batteries. There is a master switch on the front, duel 4.2a USB charging ports, and a pre-wired connection point.

  • Compact waterproof design
  • Holds up to 3 7AH or 2 12AH batteries (batteries not included)
  • Master Power Switch
  • Integrated 5 volt, 4.2A DUAL USB Charging ports
  • Built in booted, water tight fuse holder with 15A fuse

The Power Pack battery box comes completely pre-wired and ready to power your fishing adventure (batteries not included). And the built in Master Power Switch, gives you full control of when your power is ON or OFF. Easily power your 12v accessories by just plugging them into the Power Port outlet integrated right into the side of the Power Pack.

The Power Pack comes with a home battery trickle charger that will maintain your batteries and insure you always have a full charge every time you go out.

Record all the action and never miss a call while you’re out on the water. The Power Pack battery box includes a dual USB charging port that will allow you to keep both your mobile device and action camera fully charged.

In summary this is a great accessory to our kayak. I personally have made my own power box and it was done a lot cheaper than the Yak power box. Te disadvantage was that I had made a few errors and it didn’t look as good as this one. If you have the money, it is a lot easier to purchase a complete package to power everything you need.

If you are trying to power a small voltage item like a fish finder, LED lights, or USB Device, the YakAttack 10Ah Battery Power kit from YakAttack might be a great fit for you.

The battery is compact and comes with a case that allows it to placed about anywhere.    The battery is a 12 volt rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack that has a capacity of 12Ah.  The device has the normal open-ended connectors that are pretty standard with most marine items.  Installing a quick connect to the end makes it a great battery for quick setup.

Key Features

  • Powered by Nocqua Adventure Gear
  • Includes complete 10 Ah lithium-ion battery kit
  • Includes a easy connect charger
  • Water-resistant and rechargeable
  • Six-month warranty
  • Made in China

We found that the 10Ah is enough to power most small usage items.  You can easily setup a quick connect that can be used with USB Devices, LED Lights, or small fish finders.  Heavy use items would require a larger Ah battery.

A key benefit to this battery is that it is a lithium-ion battery which means that it is a light weight battery.  It is also small (small footprint) and can be easily carried or placed in easy to access locations.  The carry case makes it easy to store or place on the back of a seat.

Kit includes everything you need.

YakAttack Feelfree Unitrack Adapter https://www.kayakingsource.com/yakattack-feelfree-unitrack-adapter/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/yakattack-feelfree-unitrack-adapter/#respond Mon, 28 Jan 2019 06:18:54 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2209

Feelfree kayaks use a specialized tracking (FeelFree UniTrack) system that is only used by Feelfree Kayaks.  The width of the track system makes normal size track accessories not fit.  YakAttack has a product that allows you to adapt almost any track accessory to the Feelfree track.

Once you fit the adapter over your existing track connector, you can just screw it in to your track accessory. This is a simple fix to use accessories not made my Feelfree on your kayak.

Adapter in tracking system

YakAttack has a lock on this product because there isn’t another manufacturer selling this item out there. If you want to use other accessories, you have to buy these.

The only problems that I have had with these are that you have to make sure they are tight against the rails. The adapter fits on top of the track connector and easily slides around until you tighten it down. While it is a problem, this is a adaptor and there is no way around that.

Specifications

  • Military grade, Hard anodized aluminum
  • Creates compatibility of YakAttack, RAM, and Scotty T-bolts on FeelFree UniTrack
  • Suitable for harsh marine environments
  • Aluminum Adapter Plate and O-Ring

Feelfree US and Joy Sports introduces Jonny Boats Bass 100 https://www.kayakingsource.com/feelfree-us-and-joy-sports-introduces-jonny-boats-bass-100/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/feelfree-us-and-joy-sports-introduces-jonny-boats-bass-100/#comments Wed, 23 Jan 2019 12:36:21 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2181 News Release – JANUARY 18, 2019 BY ROLAND JIMENEZ

Feelfree US, LLC in conjunction with Joy Sports Co. Ltd, announced the introduction of Jonny Boats featuring the Bass 100, a customizable motor or human powered personal boat designed for outdoor recreational use.

The Bass 100 borrows from the classic “Jon” boat concept, an open platform to build upon as they did in the “good ‘ol days”, when DIY (do-it-yourself) was not a hobby, but a way of life. Jonny Boats blends this classic concept with modern boat and kayak technology offering a highly customizable base model ready for multiple outfitting options with ready-to-go off the shelf kits and individual accessories.

A distinctive feature that sets the Bass 100 apart is a unique planing hull designed to rise up and glide on the water at higher speeds to cover more distance quicker. This was a necessary feature as the Bass 100 is designed to be powered more so than paddled. The concept is closer to a boat rather than a kayak but by simply adding the fin kit you can easily transform the craft into an efficient sit-down or stand-up paddle boat.

The Bass 100 base model is ready for adventure with a user-friendly wide open deck, super-stable hull and a comfortable high seat that can be used for fun, fishing or as a tender between larger boats.

Jonny Boats are designed for a wide spectrum of users, from the recreational weekend boater to the hardcore angler or hunter. What makes the boat so special is no matter who you are or what adventure have planned, you have the ability to outfit the Bass 100 your own way, in your own style.

“The concept was born and driven by years of experience in the recreational boating and paddlesports industry,” said Peter Murphy, Jonny Boats Designer. “Talking to our customers, I found that people wanted freedom of choice with the ability to outfit, with pride, their own watercraft to their needs and budget.”

According to the head of Feelfree US and Bass 100 design contributor, Jim Hager, the inspiration for the brand was also driven by his own personal experiences.

“The inspiration of what Jonny is all about came from my own personal experiences, as an angler who does things my way and my two uncle ‘Johnnys’, both avid fishermen whom I admire to this day,” said Jim. “And of course, the Jon boat, simple, yet functional and accommodating in its most basic form but with the ability to transform it into an advanced fishing platform reflective of its owner.”

The Bass 100 offers a variety of standard features including the Jonny High-Ride forward and aft plus height adjustable seating system, adjustable foot pegs, two flush mounted rod holders, front Uni-Track rails for mounting accessories, inspection port, oversized rear tankwell storage area with bungee tie down system, integrated sturdy side and bow and stern handles, a wide open deck with soft foam standing pads and a drain plug.

For a truly customizable experience, a variety of Jonny Boat brand accessories will be available in ready-to-go kits or individually such as Jonny Boat’s own electric motor, the Go-Moto Pod (both fixed and a steerable option), 8-Ball Steering System, stern mounted retractable fins, Beaver Tail Rudder, Uni-Track Rails, Uni-Track Accessory Mounts, Uni-Track Stand Up Bar, trolley, sonar kit, soft deck kits, trim tab kits, seat bag, cooler, paddles, electronic wiring systems and more.

The base model Bass 100 will be available through a worldwide network of dealers beginning Summer 2019.

Wilderness Systems Lithium Battery https://www.kayakingsource.com/wilderness-systems-lithium-battery/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/wilderness-systems-lithium-battery/#comments Fri, 18 Jan 2019 05:45:37 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2101 Today we are loking at the Lithium Wilderness System Battery made by Wilderness Systems.  This is a light weight lithium battery that has great benefits for kayakers.  This battery is a small battery with capacity.   The total Ah (ampere-hour) is 15 Ah which comes from its six high capacity lithium cells.

If you are looking for a charger for this system, here is a great article at FishFindly.com on Best Marine Battery Chargers.

Advantages

Being a six cell lithium battery, this weighs in at 14 oz.  The compact design comes in at 4.5″ x 2.75″ x 1.75″.  The case is designed with a hard protective casing which allows for good shock protection.  The size gives it a great advantage when placing in a hatch or backpack.

It is designed with 1 input (battery charge) and 3 outputs.  The outputs are 1 DC 12v and 2 5v.

This unit has the ability to protect itself from over current, short circuit, over charge, and over discharge.  This helps you when you are using too many electronics and go beyond its total output.

A feature that makes this great for Kayaks is the fact that it is waterproof.  The output and input slots have caps that keep the battery dry.

wilderness-systems-battery

Disadvantages

While they say this is a 15v Ah battery, they recommend a limit of 12v with 1.0 Amp.  This limits the use with a lot of fish finders.  Most fish finders exceed the 12v or 1.0 Amp parameters.

Some examples they give:

  • Garmin 73sv – current draw is 12v 1.41Ah. Ah is higher than our battery compatibility.
  • Lowrance 7TI – current draw is 13v 0.9Ah. Voltage is higher than our battery compatibility.

Specifications

  • 15 Ah
  • 6 high capacity cells
  • Hard protective casing
  • Water resistant
  • Lightweight (14oz)
  • Compact (4.5” x 2.75” x 1.75”)
  • Custom fits the Lithium Battery Cradle and Fish Finder Install Kit
  • Compatible with Solar Panels and most electronic devices
  • Input: 5V 2A max (USB Standard)
  • Three output options: 1 – DC 12 volt, 2 – USB 5 volt
  • Power indicator: 5 LEDs indicate charge capacity for 0-100%
  • Protection circuitry: over current, short circuit, over charge, over discharge
  • Comes with:
    • 12-volt bare wire output cable with crimps and heat shrink tubing
    • USB charging cable

The Lithium Battery refines the kayak battery beyond the heavy and cumbersome marine batteries of the past. Lightweight and water resistant, the Lithium Battery not only excels in form but in function as well with multiple output options, superior efficiency, power and amp hours. The compact design conveniently stows in most kayak hatches.

Coast Guard rescues 4 kayakers stranded on small island in Detroit River https://www.kayakingsource.com/coast-guard-rescues-4-kayakers-stranded-on-small-island-in-detroit-river/ https://www.kayakingsource.com/coast-guard-rescues-4-kayakers-stranded-on-small-island-in-detroit-river/#comments Mon, 14 Jan 2019 07:53:43 +0000 https://www.kayakingsource.com/?p=2083 The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued three adults and a child who became stranded on a small island in the Detroit River during a kayaking trip.

The man, his wife, a 5-year-old girl, and a family friend became stranded on the island in the river’s mouth Friday after launching their kayaks from Lake Erie Metropark.

Rescue crews were sent on a boat and a helicopter, but the water around the island proved too shallow for the boat.

The kayakers were hoisted into the helicopter after 7 p.m. and taken to Gross Ile Municipal Airport, and treated for mild hypothermia.

The Coast Guard says the kayakers spent about four hours stranded, but were prepared with a survival kit and cell phones and had also lit a bonfire to stay warm.

2019 11th ANNUAL YAKATTACK KAYAK FISHING TOURNAMENT OFFICIAL RULES Although we have lots of prizes and raffle items, the competition aspect of this event is secondary to the social and “giving” aspects, and the planning and execution of the event will reflect that. Entrants whose primary concern is competition and prizes may find this event inadequately planned and executed for their standards, and are encouraged to come to terms with this before participation. All participants are expected to accept the format, scoring, prize awarding, and judging as executed by the organizers and without dispute. Over the years we have made some technical mistakes, but have gone above and beyond to provide a great atmosphere and a great time for everyone involved. Both of those should be expected to continue this year.

PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY: Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors are eligible to register and participate with a parent or guardian who also participates in the event. Minors must have the signature of his or her parent or legal guardian on the entry form as applicable to any state, commonwealth, county, or federal regulations or law. The obligation to know these rules falls upon the parent. A completed entry form and applicable entry fee must be received according to the dates defined above. All participants will be required to sign the waiver form at check-in during the captains meeting.
**For the 2019 tournament, entry fees will not be refundable or transferable. Anyone that will be attending the tournament, dinner, and awards ceremony must be registered.**

SAFETY: Safe boating will be observed at all times. DURING COMPETITION, EACH CONTESTANT IS REQUIRED TO FOLLOW U.S. COAST GUARD REGULATIONS INCLUDING POSSESSION OF COAST GUARD APPROVED TYPE III PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD), PFD MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE PADDLING. NOT WEARING A PFD WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION – IF YOU MAKE IT BACK.

CHECK-IN: All participants must be checked in before launching. See Schedule for check-in times and locations. No other check-in times or locations will be available.

STARTING TIME: Official launch time will be stated at the Captain’s Meeting on Friday. Launching before scheduled launch time will result in disqualification.

WEIGH-IN: All entrants wishing to enter fish must return their pictures/camera to tournament headquarters according to the times in the Schedule. Participants must be in line by the listed times, without exception.

SPORTSMANSHIP: All attendees are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, and conservation. Please represent our sport and tournament well.

PERMITTED FISHING METHODS: All fish must be caught live via hook and line. Only artificial baits may be used. Live or previously live baits are not permitted. Contestants must hook and land fish without assistance. Assistance with photos is permitted.

PERMITTED FISHING VESSELS: Only human powered vessels such as kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle board are allowed. Vessels other than kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards must be approved. Electric or internal combustion motors are not generally permitted, but exceptions may be made for individuals with physical limitations. These will be handled on a case by case basis.

TANDEMS/SHARING: It is permissible for more than 1 entrant to share the same watercraft. However each paddler must pay and compete as individuals. They must also have their own media card but may share a camera. Fish may NEVER be shared among entrants.

PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS: Anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Twin Lakes State Park. Specific parameters will be discussed at the captains meeting. All participants must use public accessible launch areas on public waters. Fishing private waters or special permit waters will result in disqualification.

SCORING: The tournament is a catch, photo, and release format. At the captains meeting each contestant will be issued an identifier, score sheet, and measuring device. Participants may use their own measuring devices provided they are approved by a tournament organizer and are available for inspection at the photo check-in. Participants must use their own digital cameras, and a card reader will be available to download pictures. For pictures with fish, the identifier must be clearly visible in every picture. If there is no identifier, then the picture is disqualified. Score sheets will be included in your captain’s bags and must be filled out completely and correctly. All photos become property of YakAttack. The first photo in memory must be of the angler on the morning of launch, with the identifier. The second photo will be the rigged boat at launch.
There will be a two fish per category format this year. So you will be entering your two biggest black bass (Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass), Crappie and Bluegill.

The Slam Division – Consisting of 1 Bass, 1 Crappie and 1 Bluegill remains the same as last year.
Fish must be photographed in or on boat, (vessels should be distinguishable in photo) on an approved measuring device, and the identifier must be clearly distinguishable.
The photo must clearly show the length of the fish. Length is determined from the tip of the lower jaw (mouth closed) to the natural (un-pinched) tip of the tail. Length should be measured to the nearest quarter inch.
All species are worth 1-point per inch. Lengths and species identification will be verified and scored by a scoring committee. The scoring committee makes the call and the tournament director is the final authority.

Awards: You will only be eligible for 1 award placement. Example: Bob submits 2 largemouth bass 37” total, 2 crappie 23” total, 2 Bluegill 16” total. Bob placed first in both the Crappie and Bluegill. Bob will only be awarded First place trophy in 1 Division (his choice).

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: Participants may use digital cameras (including camera enabled phones) for photographing their catch. Entrants must bring the storage chip from their camera to check-in or bring the download cable for their camera so that pictures may be retrieved. Cameras may not be shared. Each angler must have their own digital camera/phone.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the event of inclement weather, a simple fishing outing to compete for the trophies will be scheduled. Meals and prizes will STILL TAKE PLACE at the Twin Lakes Conference Center on May 18. In this case, all paid entrants will have their raffle tickets entered on their behalf whether they are present or not. If an entrant is not present and wins a prize they will be notified by the organizers. Entrants who win prizes but are not present will be responsible for picking up their prizes at YakAttack LLC in Burkeville VA, or having them shipped at their own expense. Determination of which prizes will be drawn for and which will be available to win at the rescheduled event will be made by the tournament organizers and at their sole discretion.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY: A waiver and release of liability statement is part of the entry form and will be signed before arrival or during check-in. It is required of each contestant that they take responsibility for themselves while participating in any tournament activities. Each contestant must understand and sign the liability waiver.

RULE CHANGES AND INTERPRETATION: Rule interpretation will be left exclusively to the YakAttack Tournament Committee and Director. All decisions are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal. The Committee will do its best to execute fairly and without errors. If errors are made, the Committee will determine how to handle the issue and that decision is final. Everyone participating in this event is expected to accept this before participating.
